Whilst it is quite common for an individual to be affected by a sensory impairment at some point in life’s journey, we believe that this does not need to impact the quality of life. Sometimes all we need are individuals that can connect with us on a deeper level. We believe this can be achieved by breaking down barriers through communicating in a dignified and respectful way, showing compassion and sensitivity for delicate matters.
We found three breaches of the Health and Social Care Act Regulations 2014. You can see what action we told the provider to take at the back of the full version of the report. People's health and well-being was monitored by staff and they were supported to access health professionals.
Specialisms / services
This is information we require providers to send us at least once annually to give some key information about the service, what the service does well and improvements they plan to make. We also reviewed information we held about the service including statutory notifications. A statutory notification is information about important events that the provider is required to send us by law. It includes all 11,500 registered care homes in the UK that cater exclusively or primarily for older people.
Think of them more like full-board hotel accommodation with 24 hour care available. Those run by private operators more often focus on lifestyle, with help and care services discretely available to buy if or when required. – there are some services which we can’t rate, while some might be under appeal from the provider. Suspended ratings are being reviewed by us and will be published soon.
committed to quality care
People knew how to raise a concern or make a complaint and the provider had systems to manage any complaints they received. There was clear guidance for staff about how to support a person if they became aggressive. However, the information included in the assessment was not always based on guidance from a health professional. The Home Services Directory on this website provides an opportunity to promote your services. Entries are completely free, and we’re happy to work with you to ensure your service are presented in a way you’re happy with.
Additional facilities are also common – for example hairdressing salons, hobby rooms and gyms. Organised activities will focus on helping residents maintain their health and wellbeing. See CQC's page explaining ratings for more details about ratings and inspection practices of care homes in England. Both our resident’s physical health and wellbeing are of paramount importance to us. And as such, our care planning process works with residents, their families and carers to ascertain their needs in terms of both medical care and complementary therapy too.

Also known as Care & Repair agencies, are local non-profit organisations set up to help older people think about, plan, finance and organise work on their homes. As with hotels, the cost of living in a care home varies widely according to its location, the size of your room or suite, and the facilities on offer. There is often a substantial difference between fees charged to those who can afford the costs themselves and those who receive help from their Local Authority. A majority of homes aim to cater for both, but some target only one or the other. Generally the whole complex will be designed with attention to accessibility for residents with restricted mobility. Most retirement developments offer either properties for sale or for rent, but newer ones may offer both tenure options, and possibly shared ownership too.
During this difficult year, the only thing that has kept my family's peace of mind is that Dad is being very well cared for. For me, this is the longest time of not being to see or talk to Dad in my life. The staff are absolutely brilliant and take time to reassure me about Dad and knowing all his needs are well looked after is very reassuring. I cannot praise Langdale House enough and I have recommended them on several occasions. Day care offers a friendly and stimulating home-away-from-home, for people who are still living at home and may need some additional support during the day. All Langdale Care Homes are dual registered for the provision of residential and nursing care.
We also contacted Healthwatch for their information about the service. Healthwatch is a consumer organisation that has statutory powers to ensure the voice of the consumer is strengthened and heard by those who commission, deliver and regulate health and care services. We used information the provider sent us in the Provider Information Return.
Our massage therapist frequents each of our homes to ensure that the complementary element is well covered to go with our established and renowned care provision. The service was run by a manager who had only recently started their role on a full time basis. They planned to review the service and identify areas for improvement.
They are provided by many local Age UKs as well as other organisations. Langdale Care Home is registered with the Care Quality Commission for 39 residents. The population of Langdale is very diverse, with ages ranging from 46 to 98 years old.
Our homes offer our residents peace of mind and reassuring help 24 hours a day in a safe and comfortable environment. Some care homes are registered to provide personal care only, for example help with washing, dressing and giving medication. Others also provide nursing, and will have a nurse on duty twenty-four hours a day. All Langdale care homes are registered to provide care to people who have physical disabilities and are unable to look after themselves in their own homes. Plans of care were in place to guide staff in delivering consistent care and support in line with people’s personal preferences and choices. These were being reviewed and updated, however did not always reflect people's current needs or up to date guidance.
